Classification and shelf-view of the books in the Collection

The classification of the books in the SASS-Collection is based on the classification system of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) as developed in the 1950s (上海社会科学院图书馆图书分类法). The books are arranged in the shelves according to the below-mentioned categories.

The collection provides multifaceted insights into the book production of the Mao era. The books and journals can be used as historical sources to understand propaganda, knowledge production, and the inner workings of the ideological apparatus of this specific period.
